A Little Bit About Us

ShipCompliant is the industry leader in creating SAAS compliance and transaction platforms for the beverage alcohol industry. We make products people love, reducing time to market and enabling new sales channels for wineries, breweries, distilleries, and importers of alcohol. We’re one of Colorado’s leading tech companies - named to Mercury 100 Fastest Growing Startups 2008-2012, an IQ Innovation Award Winner 2009 and 2011 Colorado Companies to Watch - and we’re looking for a talented Software Developer to play a key role in the next phase of our growth.

A Little Bit About You

You are, first and foremost, passionate about web development. You see challenges as opportunities to apply your creativity and problem-solving skills. You’re not satisfied with mediocrity. Even when a project is “done,” you know it’s never really finished. An eternal student, you live to learn about new technologies, and have spent many nights coding or reading Stack Overflow till the early hours of the morning. You thrive in a collaborative, agile environment where your ideas are valued and rewarded, and you’re fanatical about something: brewing beer, mountain biking, or obsessively quoting The Big Lebowski.

Professionally, you’ve had experience with ASP.NET, C#, SQL, jQuery, AJAX, HTML, CSS, Visual Studio 2012, and with using SOAP, REST, and/or JSON Web Services. Ideally, you’ve had exposure to Agile software development methodologies because we practice Scrum. Oh, and you’re probably highly caffeinated. (You’d consider a fridge full of Red Bull a legit perk.)

What You Will Do In This Role

Software developers love working at ShipCompliant because we don’t back down from a challenge. This means you’ll be working on interesting problems in an environment that rewards innovation and creativity. This could take many forms, including:

  • Developing and enhancing user experience using ASP.NET / ASP.NET MVC, jQuery, CSS, HTML, and Backbone
  • Developing and maintaining scalable business logic using .NET 4.5, C#, nHibernate 3.1, SQL 2012
  • Interacting with over 50 technology partners to build and improve integrated solutions
  • Playing with some of the technologies during “Non-functional Mondays” (ShipCompliant’s version of 20% time) and contribute to R&D on some wild and crazy ideas
  • Collaborating in a fast-paced agile environment under tight deadlines to “ship” new releases each sprint
  • Working alongside some of the smartest and most talented people you’ll ever meet to continue learning new knowledge and skills.

Working at ShipCompliant

Working at ShipCompliant is not always easy. We’re committed to creating products that make peoples’ lives better, and we’re revolutionizing an industry in the process. We’ll be honest; it’s a lot of hard work. The level of commitment we ask from our team is not for the faint of heart, and the person we want to hire embraces this commitment. In fact? They wouldn’t have it any other way.

We have high expectations, and we’ll hold you accountable. You’ll probably be asked to take on a level of responsibility bigger than the role we hire you for. Your growth will be a priority because we have big plans; we’ll want and need you to be better today than you were yesterday. If you replaced the word “can’t” with the words “what if?” in your vocabulary, you’d have a pretty good idea of what it’s like to work here.

With ambitions as big as ours, we need everyone’s voice to be heard. We aren’t afraid of healthy conflict because we trust each other not to take it personally. If your ego gets in the way of giving and receiving feedback openly, we likely won’t be good fit. On the other hand, if you thrive in a culture that values abilities over titles, where ideas are shared freely and evaluated on merit? Well, this might just be the greatest job you’ve ever had.

ShipCompliant is a core values-driven company, and we use them extensively to make all kinds of decisions - hiring included. The candidate we hire will share our commitment to these values:

Feel It - We have authentic empathy for our customers, our community, and each other.

Own It - We take personal responsibility for outcomes, good and bad. We don’t pass the buck.

Shape It - We are revolutionizing an industry and creating our own future. We never stop exploring new ways to make our customers’ or team members’ lives better, easier, and more fun.

Crush It - We maximize all available resources to create high-impact solutions that surprise and delight. Anything we choose to do, we do it right.

We think working side-by-side with the greatest team in Colorado is the best benefit there is, but there are lots of other reasons to love working at ShipCompliant. Our office (newly renovated, mountain views) is located downtown Boulder, and our team frequents the many restaurants, coffee shops, and happy hours in the area. We don’t care what you wear, and if it makes your life easier to bring your dog to work occasionally, you can be assured it’ll get lots of attention. If there’s a book, a workshop, or a class that will help you do your job better, chances are we’ll pay for it. We also offer medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401K retirement plan; a pretty decent amount of paid vacation, holidays, and health & wellness days; a company-paid ECO Pass; discounted gym and rock climbing club memberships; plus all the coffee you could want. Wine and beer are in plentiful supply, and we sample our home brewers’ creations regularly. Recent company trips have included a Mexico beach vacation, mountain biking in Moab, and weekends in Steamboat Springs. We like to have fun!
